In this new Age of Zen, I'd like to recommend remnant pieces --scarves, hats, legwarmers or anything else that loves a pattern. They're a delight to work but take longer than similar "pre-patterned" projects. (I've waited a day or more for the next fiber to reveal itself.)
With all my leftover balls of yarn, ribbon and (sometimes) threads gathered in a huge basket or two, I begin knitting (or crocheting) with the ball that seems most insistent. Without regard for color or texture, the rows begin and end when they're done.
It can be maddening. One row or color will take off like crazy, leaving the rest speechless.
I knit this scarf as a treat for myself and don't think I can let it go, but did want to share the idea. Next (perhaps): a mostly-matching pair of leg warmers.
